NonProfit Sues Federal Government Over $36M in Withheld Refugee Aid Funds — March 2025
Catholic Charities Fort Worth has filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services demanding the release of over $36 million in federal grants essential for refugee assistance programs in Texas. Since January, the nonprofit and its partner organizations have struggled to provide refugees with critical services like food, housing aid, job training, and legal support due to the frozen funds. Over 750 staff have been laid off or furloughed, and many refugees face eviction and hardship amid the funding freeze. Texas, which resettles more refugees than most states, remains uniquely affected by this funding disruption.
