Texas Court Overturns Targetted Deportation Order — June 2025

A U.S. District Court in Texas struck down the use of the Alien Enemies Act to justify expedited deportations of Venezuelan refugees. Judge Fernando Rodriguez, Jr. ruled that the law, originally passed in 1798, applies only during armed conflict with a foreign power—a condition not met in this case. The ruling protects Venezuelans fleeing political violence and organized crime, reaffirming due process rights and humanitarian values.
